Acid House Flashback # 11

"Everybody's Free" - Rozalla - 1992

Rozalla Miller was born in Zambia and grew up in Zimbabwe, where she had a few pop hits, before being discovered by an English dance music producer in 1988.

In 1991, "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)" was released and became a huge dance anthem worldwide. With its acid house piano, pop sensibility and Rozalla's diva vocals, it became one of the biggest rave / club / pop crossover hits of the early '90s. Consequently, Rozalla became known as the "Queen of Rave" and went on to release "Are You Ready to Fly?" and "I Love Music" and hit remixes on "Everybody's Free" in 1994 and 2002.

My plans to see Rozalla perform at a rave in San Francisco were cancelled due to a curfew placed on the city because of the "Rodney King" riots in California.

Rozalla has a new jazz-soul album due out next month.

**This installment of "Acid House Flashback" was inspired by the inauguration of Barack Obama as the next President of the United States.
